Mendocino and Mariposa halls will be cleaned throughout the weekend and are scheduled to open Monday with the exception of the fourth floor of Mariposa Hall, which will remain closed until further notice.

Cleanup crews will be using an airflow system with charcoal filters in both buildings to remove the smoky odor.

Fifth-floor ceiling tiles and drywall in Mendocino Hall will be tested for asbestos as a precaution. Badly discolored tiles will be removed.

The home economics kitchen and another room on Mariposa Hall’s third floor have water damage and soot. The hallways and nearly every office on the fourth floor need to be cleaned.

Sacramento State officials are scheduled to meet today at 4 p.m. to assess the situation.
