Hornets gear up for homecoming

Homecoming will include the traditional Hornet Walk among the tailgaters.

Hornets, come home!

All Sacramento State students, alumni, faculty, staff, Sacramento residents – in short, everybody – are invited to the University’s homecoming celebration and football game Saturday, Oct. 22.

The Hornets will take on the Eastern Washington Eagles at 6:05 p.m., but the celebration begins at 3 p.m. with tailgating in the Alumni Center parking lot.

Tailgating is free, but it’s first come, first served, and fans might want to get there as soon as it opens, since last year’s game drew more than 10,000 football aficionados eager to see the Hornets.

The gathering of Hornet supporters and their vehicles includes a competition for best food, with creative use of space earning bonus points.

The team will make its appearance with the traditional Hornet walk at 3:15 p.m. Players will march among the tailgaters, flanked by the marching band.

Other festivities include live music by Radio Active, a bounce house for the children and a “Minute to Win It” competition. Tailgaters can even get their photos taken with Herky, the Hornets’ mascot.

Game tickets range from $10 to $20 and can be purchased at the gate or in advance at the University Ticket Office, (916) 278-4323. Students with valid OneCards are admitted free. Free tickets are also available in advance for faculty and staff by emailing
