Weekend sports roundup


Here’s a quick look at how Hornet athletics teams fared this past weekend:


Saturday: Lost 29-20 at Portland State, falling to 3-6 overall and 2-5 in the Big Sky Conference.

Next: 6:05 p.m. Saturday vs. Idaho State at Hornet Stadium.


Friday: Defeated Weber State in three games (25-12, 27-25, 29-27). Saturday: lost to Idaho State in five games (15-25, 25-14, 23-25, 25-23, 15-13); both matches at the Hornets Nest. Sac State continues to hold onto the fourth and final position for the Big Sky tournament. The Hornets seek their first such berth since 2008.

Next: 7 p.m. Thursday vs. Montana State at the Hornets Nest.

Men’s soccer

Saturday: Defeated San Jose State 3-2 in overtime at Hornet Field. Isaac Ikyurav scored the winner with 49 seconds remaining in the first overtime.

Next: 4 p.m. Thursday vs. San Jose State in the first round of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tournament in Denver. The Hornets are seeded fourth and will try to beat the Spartans for the third time this season. New Mexico, the nation's top-ranked and only unbeaten team, is the top seed.
