Sac State choirs salute ‘American Voices’

The University Chorus, Women’s Chorus and Chamber Choir will salute American poets and composers May 12.

The Sacramento State University Choirs, led by Donald Kendrick, present “American Voices,” a choral concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at Sacred Heart Church, 39th and J streets.

The University Chorus, Women’s Chorus and Chamber Choir will salute American poets and composers with texts by Emily Dickinson, James Agee and Robert Frost in compositions by Randall Thompson, Eric Whitacre, Gwyneth Walker and Morten Lauridsen.

The concert also will feature the area premiere of “Eat Your Vegetables” by composer and Sacramento State alumnus John Muehleisen with clarinetist Sandra McPherson.

Suggested donation is $10 general admission, $7 for seniors and $5 for students. Advance tickets are strongly suggested by calling the University’s Ticket Office at (916) 278-4323 or through BASS ticket outlets at (916) 766-2277 or www.tickets.com.
