Teacher Candidate Workshop

Sacramento State’s College of Education will hold a drop-in application workshop this week for individuals who want to pursue an educational specialist credential next spring, as well as for applicants to the Multiple Subject and Single Subject Teacher Preparation Programs for fall 2013, who intend to complete their prerequisite courses and experiences in spring 2013.

Workshop hours are 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, in Eureka Hall, room 211. Additional workshops may be scheduled. Check www.csus.edu/teach for updates.

California is currently experiencing a shortage of special education teachers. “And that’s likely to continue for the foreseeable future,” says Pia L. Wong, Teaching Credentials Department chair.

Sacramento State offers special-education credential programs for mild/moderate, moderate/severe and early childhood specializations.

Spring 2013 Conditional Admission addresses the 40 percent to 50 percent of multiple- or single-subject teacher candidates who must complete their prerequisites during the Spring 2013 semester to be ready to begin the core credential program next fall.

Applications to the system, via CSU Mentor (www.csumentor.edu), must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, and an additional application (www.csus.edu/teach) must be submitted by Monday, Oct. 1.

Interested applicants may call (916) 278-6403. For media assistance, contact Sacramento State’s Office of Public Affairs at (916) 278-6156.
