Smile Dube, Economics, was invited to be a reviewer of professors by the National Research Foundation (Finance and Economics) for 2012. The National Research Foundation (NRF) promotes and supports research in all fields of knowledge within universities in South Africa. The NRF provides services to the research community, especially at higher education institutions and science councils with a view to promote high-level human capital development. There are basically three main categories of classifying all university researchers in South Africa:

  • Leading international researcher – Researchers who are unequivocally recognized by their peers as leading international scholars in their field for the high quality and impact of their recent research outputs.
  • Internationally acclaimed researcher – Researchers who enjoy considerable international recognition by their peers for the high quality of their recent research outputs.
  • Established researcher – Researchers with a sustained recent record of productivity in the field who are recognized by their peers as having produced a body of quality work, the core of which has coherence and attests to ongoing engagement with the field as having demonstrated the ability to conceptualize problems and apply research methods to investigating them.

Kanphitcha “Pook” Kodkanon and Suthin “Uen” Rojprasert, Communication Studies, presented competitively selected papers at the Intellectbase International Consortium Conference in Las Vegas. Ms. Kodkanon’s paper was titled “Project Based Learning: A Conceptual Model of Interdisciplinary Team in Science-Based Technology School”; and Mr. Rojprasert’s paper was titled, “A Synthesis of Self-directed Learning Design Model with Constructionism in the Environment of New Media in Thai Higher Education.” Kodkanon and Rojprasert, doctoral candidates at King Mongkut University of Technology, Thonburi, Thailand, are visiting Sacramento State during the fall semester and are sponsored by Tom Knutson, Communication Studies.

Tony Sheppard, Recreation, Parks and Tourism Administration, authored two of the top 12 articles of 2012 in the online Sacramento Press. Sheppard is a weekly film columnist for both the Sacramento Press and Capitol Weekly.
