Sacramento State’s 2013 Student Research Symposium will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday, March 1, in the University Union.

Student Research Symposium

The event showcases outstanding student research across multiple academic disciplines and serves as an internal competition to select up to 10 students to represent Sacramento State at the CSU Systemwide Student Research Competition in May.

The top two students in the undergraduate and graduate categories will be awarded $500; the faculty mentoring these students will receive a $500 professional development award. Travel expenses will be covered for those selected to participate in the May competition.

Deidre Sessoms, a professor of education and Provost’s Fellow, says research projects prompt students to blend “critical thinking, analysis, creativity and connections to the real world.” Students who participate in these projects, she says, “routinely praise the experience for making them even more passionate about their academic discipline.”
