Five of the 23 students graduating from Sacramento State’s Public Policy and Administration program will present overviews of their master’s papers during the second annual Master’s Theses Symposium on Thursday, May 23, at the state Capitol.

The presenters and their topics are:

Katie Cardenas – “Social Media Policies for Local Governments”

Derrick Fessler – “Mitigating Urban Traffic Congestion in California”

Jessica Hayes – “Effectiveness of California Redevelopment”

Ryan Ong – “Evaluating an Economic Impact Report for Arena Proposal”

Ngan Tran – “The Impact of Health Insurance Coverage and Health-Care Cost on Happiness”

“It’s quite impressive for students to absorb knowledge and then take on contemporary and important issues,” says Rob Wassmer, chair of the Department of Public Policy and Administration at Sacramento State. “The symposium increases the visibility of the program and gives students the experience of being in a hearing room at the Capitol.”

The presentations begin at 3 p.m. in Room 126 of the Capitol, 1315 10th St., Sacramento. The reception that follows is hosted by the Graduate Association of Students in Public Policy & Administration, Hornets Policy & Politics Alumni and Associated Students Inc.

The symposium is free and open to the public and is of particular interest to state and local elected officials.

Sac State’s master’s program in Public Policy and Administration is a premier professional degree for students who are interested in public service careers. It brings together interdisciplinary perspectives and skills necessary for a successful career in public management or the public policy arena.
