Sonia Ortiz-Mercado has joined the Office of Public Affairs and Advocacy as Director of State and Federal Relations, after serving for more than two decades in state higher education and student services positions.
She comes to the University from the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office, where she worked for more than 12 years in student service programs and governmental relations. In her most recent position, she served as dean of Matriculation, Early Assessment, Student Leadership and Administration.
She earned a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and is a former Executive Fellow of Sacramento State’s Center for California Studies. She earned a master’s degree in higher education leadership from Sacramento State.
