Five days of events mark Homecoming 2013

Students celebrating homecoming

Sacramento State’s 2013 Homecoming game with Northern Colorado kicks off at 6:05 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, following a series of prelude events guaranteed to raise everyone’s school spirit. The Alumni Association,, invites all Hornets to join in and celebrate. Game tickets are available at or (916) 278-4323.


Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 1-2

Thank-a-Thon is a two-day event that showcases the impact of alumni and donors who have supported the University. Students are invited to drop by the booth in the Library Quad and write a thank-you note or notes to University donors. Planned by the Student Advancement Council along with the Student Alumni Association, the event is designed to raise awareness of the importance of philanthropy and the Hornet Pride Challenge.

As an added incentive, note writers will receive a candy bar.


Thursday, Oct. 3

Football will be on everyone’s mind, so what better time for the Homecoming Football Rally, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in front of the Hornet Bookstore. Hornet players will attend, and Coach Marshall Sperbeck will address the crowd of enthusiastic fans.

It’s also Green and Gold Day, and all members of the campus community – present and past – are invited to wear their colors, whether it’s a lapel pin, a sweatshirt or a tie.

The day concludes with Sac State Day at Placer County, Join University President Alexander Gonzalez, Roseville Mayor Susan Rohan and other fellow Hornets from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. for a reception at the Blue Line Gallery in Roseville. The event showcases the works of Sac State art Professor Brenda Louie and Professor emeritus Lee Kavaljian.


Friday, Oct. 4

Sacramento State celebrates its most experienced graduates with the Golden Grads Reunion,, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Hosted by the Alumni Association, the luncheon honors alumni who graduated from Sacramento State 50 or more years ago. In addition to the luncheon, there will be a campus tour and complimentary tickets to the Homecoming game, where Golden Grads will receive special recognition on field during the coin toss.


Saturday, Oct. 5

As if the game itself weren’t enough, there are even more offerings on the day of.

Future Hornet Day,, brings potential students to campus to see firsthand how much fun it can be to be a Hornet. Campus tours, a visit to the residence halls, activities, demonstrations and information about academic programs and the admissions process will be offered from 1 to 4 p.m., with check-in beginning at 12:30.

Every registered Future Hornet Day guest also gets a free ticket for the big game.

Tailgating for the gridiron showdown and the Homecoming Festival begins at 3 p.m. in the Alumni Center parking lot. Fans decked out in their favorite green and gold garb will be barbecuing and enjoying great music and other entertainment. The traditional Hornet Walk by the players and a Golf Cart Parade begin at 3:45.
