Sac State releases fall enrollment figures

Students on campus

This fall, Sacramento State welcomed the largest incoming freshman and transfer classes in the University’s history. The number of new freshmen is 3,321, and new transfers total 4,811 students. That brings Sacramento State’s total number of students to 28,818, up slightly from the 28,549 students enrolled in fall 2012.

“The passage of Proposition 30 and other funding actions taken by the governor and state Legislature have helped us begin to turn things around from the time of the state’s fiscal crisis,” says Ed Mills, associate vice president for Enrollment Management.

The vast majority of new students continue to come from the greater Sacramento region, with the largest number of transfer students coming from the Los Rios Community College District.

Sacramento State’s student body also reflects demographic changes in the greater Sacramento region. The Hispanic/Latino student population now makes up 21.4 percent of the total student body. There are now 6,178 Hispanic/Latino students enrolled at the University. This number is up by 695 students over last year, a 12.7 percent increase.

“We’re proud that Sacramento State continues to reflect the cultural and demographic makeup of the surrounding community,” Mills says.

More detailed information about the student body will be available within the next few weeks.
