U.S. News and World Report has ranked Sacramento State’s online Master of Science in Accountancy (MSA) program 75th in the nation out of 236 similar programs. It’s also ranked second among the 23 California State University campuses.

MSA is part of the University’s College of Business Administration ( and uses a broad-based approach rather than a narrow focus. Students learn about multiple areas, including financial, managerial, auditing and international accounting. A combination of online course materials, such as streaming video and instant messaging, delivers a completely web-based degree.

Established 10 years ago, the online program is moving up the rankings year by year, according to Monica Lam, the college’s associate dean for Graduate and External Programs. She notes that the U.S. News list is well known to overseas students who use it in selecting universities.

Lam thanks the students, faculty, staff and community for collectively supporting the MSA program. The success coincides with a similar achievement by Sac State’s Master of Business Administration program, which is ranked 125 out of 300 colleges.

“The College of Business Administration vision is to lead the CSU system,” Lam says. “With the national ranking of the MBA and MSA programs, we are making significant progress to realize that vision and will continue to work for greater success in the future.”
