Roll on over to the Sac State campus Friday, May 16, for the annual Art Ball. Sponsored by the Alumni Association’s Art Chapter, the celebration will run from 5 to 8 p.m.

Art Department students will display their best works in multiple media on both floors of Kadema Hall. Art Sculpture Lab Rooms 106-108 will feature works by Professor Brenda Louie’s students in Figure Drawing and Life Studio.

The Art Ball’s main attractions are the exhibitions of work by graduating bachelor’s and master’s students. The Senior Show, planned and curated by students from the senior seminar of studio art, features pieces in various media. It opened May 5 at Kadema Hall’s Robert Else Gallery and is on display through Thursday, May 22.

The Masters of Art exhibition is in two galleries. Opening Wednesday, May 7, most of the exhibit’s works are at the Library Gallery Annex through Friday, May 23. Paintings, video, sculpture and more will be exhibited by Phillip Altstatt, Jeff Carter, Afsaneh Dehbozorgi, Jeff Mayry, Roberta Rousos, Brad Starkey-Owens and Minh Tran. Tran also will have an installation, “Samsāra: Vessels of Life and Death,” on view at Kadema Hall’s Witt Gallery at the same time.

In conjunction with the Art Ball, both student shows will hold receptions that night. The Master Candidates reception will be at the Library patio. The Senior Show gathering will take place outside the Robert Else Gallery in the Kadema breezeway.

The Art Ball is a chance for the community to view works by students who are about to embark on their professional careers. It’s also an opportunity to talk with some of the artists, meet the instructors who have guided them, and share the experience with other art aficionados.
