Mechanical engineering major shines in startup contest

Sacramento State mechanical engineering major Joy Lane is creative – and very persuasive. She was a member of one of two local teams to qualify for an international competition with a product she designed. DashBar, an app/hardware combination, takes existing technology from a smartphone and various bicycle components to charge that smartphone while the user is riding the bike.

Students vote 'no' on new Event Center fee

A record turnout of Sacramento State students voted this week on the adoption of a fee to build and maintain a new Event Center on campus. By a 79.6 percent to 20.4 percent vote, the proposed $219-per-semester fee increase was rejected. About 7,000 votes were cast, or approximately 25 percent of the student body head count.

Ed Mills appointed vice president for Student Affairs

Sacramento State President Alexander Gonzalez announced today the appointment of Ed Mills as vice president for Student Affairs, effective Jan. 1, 2015. Mills has been serving as interim vice president since June 2, 2014. Prior to that appointment, he was the associate vice president for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs.
