Vertical dancers, street faire highlight Festival of Arts

The most ambitious Festival of the Arts yet bursts onto – and even off – the Sacramento State campus this spring with dancers performing on the sides of buildings, a new arts street faire in downtown Sacramento, plus the traditional Family Sunday Funday, and all the attractions that make up the University’s Arts Experience.

Gift announcements among highlights at Sac State Gala

Sacramento State’s Green & Gold Gala, the University’s signature fundraising event held Friday, March 27, netted more than $450,000 for student scholarships. The black-tie event also celebrated the accomplishments of President Alexander Gonzalez and his wife, Gloria, as he prepares to retire in June after a 35-year career in California higher education, including the past 12 years at Sacramento State.

Local high schools have long participated in the tradition of athletic signing days to celebrate sports stars as they commit to a college. On Friday, May 1 – National College Decision Day – other seniors will get their day of celebration, too.

Sac St. lands $150,000 grant to aid kids with cerebral palsy

Sacramento State has received a two-year, $150,000 grant from the Thrasher Research Fund to study how intensive, home-based treadmill training could help young children with cerebral palsy learn to walk independently.

The Sacramento State Alumni Association is proud to announce that eight alumni will be honored with Distinguished Alumni Awards and one honorary alumnus will receive the Order of the Hornet at a ceremony Thursday, April 23, at the Alumni Center.

Vocal Jazz Director Gaw Vang is continuing the Sacramento State tradition of winning nationwide recognition for the University’s Music Department. The department’s group C-Sus Voices has been recognized with an Outstanding Performance award for a college small vocal group by DownBeat magazine, jazz music’s “bible.”

Wall-raising for Solar Decathlon house

In February 2014, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) chose Sacramento State as one of 20 universities worldwide to participate in the Solar Decathlon 2015. Since then, four schools have dropped out of the demanding student competition. Now, after months of planning, designing, fundraising, and meeting the DOE’s stringent planning deadlines, Sac State’s Team Solar NEST (Natural, Elegant, Sustainable, Tranquility) will build its Reflect Home on campus.
