Riding a bike to Sac State: Smart, economical and popular

May is National Bike Month, and the University’s signature event is this week’s Bike to Sac State Day. University Transportation and Parking Services (UTAPS) is hosting a two-wheeler festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, at the Guy West Bridge plaza. It’s BYOB (bring your own bike).

Sac State reaches out to displaced Heald students

Representatives from Sac State’s Admissions and Outreach Department will hold two workshops for the students: one Wednesday June 10, the other Wednesday, June 17. Both are from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Lassen Hall 1100 Welcome Center.

Renowned speaker Dr. Steve Perry, an educator and best-selling author, will give the keynote address at the DEGREES Project’s second annual recognition of its program scholars from noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, in the University Union Ballroom.

Walls go up for Solar Decathlon house

In February 2014, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) chose Sacramento State as one of 20 universities worldwide to participate in the Solar Decathlon 2015. Since then, four schools have dropped out of the demanding student competition. Now, after months of planning, designing, fundraising, and meeting the DOE’s stringent planning deadlines, Sac State’s Team Solar NEST (Natural, Elegant, Sustainable, Tranquility) is building its Reflect Home on campus.

Gov. Jerry Brown has appointed Bernice Bass de Martinez, chair of Sacramento State’s Department of Foreign Languages, to the state Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians.

Students' inventions aim to better the world

Thirty-four Sacramento State seniors set to graduate this week with degrees in Computer Engineering or Electrical and Electronic Engineering are tackling real-life problems. Two of their inventions, the One-Armed Wijit Wheelchair Electronic-Steering Assistance adapter and the SteadySpoon, have been granted provisional patents and likely are on their way to the marketplace.
