Athletic Excellence

The Sacramento State athletics department boasts 21 sports (12 on the women's side, nine on the men's side), comprised of football, men's and women's basketball, women's volleyball, women's beach volleyball, baseball, softball, men's and women's outdoor track and field, men's and women's indoor track and field, men's and women's soccer, women's gymnastics, men's and women's tennis, women's rowing, men's and women's golf, and men's and women's cross country.

All 21 Sacramento State intercollegiate teams play at the Div. I level, while football is Div. I-AA. The Hornets compete in the Big Sky Conference in 16 sports including men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, football, men's and women's golf, women's soccer, softball, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's indoor track & field, men's and women's outdoor track & field, and women's indoor volleyball.  The baseball team competes in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC).  Men's soccer and women's beach volleyball compete in the Big West Conference. Women's gymnastics competes in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.  The women's rowing team competes in the American Athletic Conference.
