DECLARING OR CHANGING YOUR MAJOR

Undergraduates: Most students declare a major when they first apply for admission
to Sacramento State. If you wish to change your major, you must file a Change of Major form. Failure to change your major in a timely manner may make it difficult for you to register for major courses. Obtain form at Admisisons and Records or online. The department chairperson's signature is required to declare any of the following undergraduate majors (including changes from the pre-major). Obtain forms at the department office.

  • Business Administration
  • Child Development
  • Communication Studies
  • Computer Science
  • Criminal Justice
  • Engineering
  • Graphic Design*
  • Interior Design*
  • Nursing*
  • Speech Pathology

Graduates: To become classified into a master’s degree program, obtain a classification form at the Office of Graduate Studies, RFC-206. To change to unclassified or second bachelor’s degree status, file a Change of Academic Program form at Admissions and Records.

*Nursing, Interior Design, and Graphic Design are considered “impacted” majors. This means that in addition to being admitted to the University, new and continuing students who wish to major in Nursing, interior Design or Graphic Design must also meet secondary admission criteria stipulated by the department.
