GRADUATION INFORMATION

A. UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS
1. Graduation Filing Timelines:

2. General Information
• Academic degrees are not granted automatically when students complete their degree requirements. Students must apply for graduation.
• Students are eligible to file a Graduation Application when they are within 2 semesters of graduating and have completed at least 80 units.

3. Graduation Application Procedures and Information
• Complete a Graduation Application form and have it reviewed
and signed by your major and minor departments prior to submission. Graduation Applications are available online at http://webapps1.csus.edu/admr/content/evaluation/graduation_application.asp.
EXCEPTIONS: obtain Graduation Applications from the department office for these majors:

• Submit the appropriate fees to the Student Financial Services Center and return the completed and receipted form to the Admissions and Records Counter.
• The Degree Evaluations Office will complete a degree audit showing remaining requirements. The results of this review, the Graduation Evaluation, will be mailed to you.
• Direct your questions concerning graduation procedures or Graduation Evaluation results to the Degree Evaluations Office, LSN Lobby. Contact Evaluators Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 9:00a.m. - 1:00p.m. by drop-in appointments or by telephone at (278-4862). You may also access our Web site at http://webapps1.csus.edu/admr/content/evaluation/default.asp.

Note:

• Participation in the commencement ceremony does not constitute graduation. Degrees are conferred only after all requirements have officially been cleared.
• Students may not register for the semester following their intended graduation unless:
1) they cancel or change their intended degree date by filing
a Graduation Change/Diploma Reorder Form with the Degree Evaluations Office, LSN Lobby.
OR
2) they apply and are accepted in a post-baccalaureate program.

GRADUATION CHECKLIST
At 80 units completed and one year prior to your degree completion, you should make appointments with major and General Education advisors, and complete the following:

  • Meet with an advisor in the Academic Advising Center to check on GE and graduation requirements.
  • Sign up with the Dean's Office or online with your College to let them know you will be attending the ceremony and the number of guests you plan to invite.
  • Contact the Commencement Office (278-4724) to make arrangements for special seating or accommdations for guests with disabilities.
  • Purchase cap and gown from the ASI Business Office (third floor, University Union).
  • Order class ring and graduation announcements at the bookstore.
  • Talk to career counselors in the Career Center (Lassen Hall 2000) for information about internships, job fairs, and workshops on resume writing and interviewing.
  • Check any holds that would prevent confirmation of degree and diploma.
  • Make sure Admissions and Records has an accurate address on file to mail your diploma. The Post Office does not forward diplomas.
  • Visit the Alumni Center for services and programs available to Sacramento State graduates.
  • Attend Graduation ceremonies. Check the commencement Web site for information at http://www.csus.edu/commence.

2. General Information
• Academic degrees are not granted automatically when students complete their degree requirements. Students must apply for graduation. Applications are available from the Office of Graduate Studies (RFC-206).

Students must have an approved Advancement to Candidacy form on file with the Office of Graduate Studies before an application for graduation is filed.

• Participation in the commencement ceremony does not constitute graduation. Degrees are conferred only after all requirements have officially been cleared.

• A fee of $7.50 will be charged for a diploma reorder.

•Degrees for graduate students will be posted 8-10 weeks after the last day of instruction. Detailed information on Graduate Degree Posting can be found on the Office of Graduate Studies Web site at: http://www.csus.edu/gradstudies.

3. Application Procedures
•Complete a Graduation Application form and return the completed form to the Office of Graduate Studies (RFC-206) after paying appropriate fees at the Student Financial Services Center (LSN-1001).

• Diplomas will be mailed to the address currently on file with the University. Address changes should be submitted to the Office of Graduate Studies or Admissions and Records before graduation.

•Diplomas will be mailed out 4-6 months after commencement. Bound thesis and projects will be shelved in the library approximately one year after degree posting.

Note: Students may not register for the semester following their intended graduation unless they have been cleared for continued registration in the Office of Graduate Studies (RFC-206).
