The Science Complex at Sacramento State

Encouraging Discovery, Inspiring Innovation, Advancing Knowledge

Take a virtual tour of the Science Complex Planetarium

The Science Complex will help students gain the knowledge to become some of the 21st century’s finest scientists. These students are future leaders who will tackle worldwide challenges such as climate change and healthy aging — as well as issues we can’t yet imagine.

A strong educational pipeline is critical to meeting the growing demand for STEM professionals who will be at the core of the economic vitality of our region — and beyond.

When it opens in Fall 2019, this 95,000-square-foot, LEED Gold-certified complex will enhance the learning and research underway at Sacramento State.

It will feature:

  • Science Complex Plaza: Directly across from the vibrant University Union, this living laboratory will have ample seating areas and be a central meeting space.
  • Planetarium: This 2,500-square-foot dome and its digitally immersive environment will be a destination for students, schoolchildren, and the public.
  • Observatory: With a retractable roof and two telescopes, this companion to the Planetarium will offer prime viewing of the night sky.
  • Green Terrace: A grass-covered room will provide insulation, and capture and filter stormwater runoff before it enters the American River.

Help us build the new hub for science innovation

The California State University system has committed $71 million in funding toward the $91 million Science Center facility. But it is not enough to equip the spaces that students need to become the innovative next generation of trailblazers.

Sacramento State is seeking $20 million in private funds for enhancements to create extraordinary settings for teaching and learning.
