La Nueva California: Latinos in the Golden State

About the Book:

Spanning one hundred years, this complex, fascinating analysis suggests that the future of Latinos in California will be neither complete assimilation nor unyielding separatism. Instead, the development of a distinctive regional identity will be based on Latino definitions of what it means to be an American.

About the Author:

Currently a Professor of Medicine and Director of the Center for the Study of Latino Health and Culture at the School of Medicine, UCLA. Bautista's research focuses on the dynamics and processes of the health of the Latino population. His publications appear in Family Medicine, Medical Care, and Salud Publica de Mexico.
