The Scholar-in-Residence Program

The Serna Center furthers our committment to assisting academic excellence with our Scholar-in-Residence program.

The Scholar-in-Residence program is funded through a generous donation from Amador and Rosalie Bustos and is designed to allow California State University, Sacramento faculty to conduct original research relevent to the Latino community. Past research has included studies on bilingual services offered in the Sacramento Community, perceptions of Latino faculty, and a needs assessment for AIDS prevention.

This year we are proud to include Ethnic Studies professor, Dr. Julie Figueroa, in our ever-growing number of Serna Center Scholars-in-Residence. Dr. Figueroa's original research: Building Capacity to Insure Academic Success: Identifying the Challenges and Responses of Latino Undergraduate Males in Higher Education, is currently being conducted and will be presented in the Fall 2007 semester.

For more information, and an informational abstract, please go to Dr. Figueroa's research page.
