Establishing Good Credit History
Applying for a credit card is one of the easiest ways to establish credit. Of course, you want to make sure you pay your bills on time and don't accumulate too much debt so that you build a good credit history.
Convenience
These days carrying a lot of cash around is a worry. Credit cards eliminate the need and they eliminate worries over whether or not a check will be accepted.
Make Telephone and On-Line Purchases
The only way to make purchases over the telephone or online is with a credit card, but be careful when giving out credit card information. Identity theft is thriving. Never give your personal or credit card information to a stranger who has phoned or emailed you. You don't really know if they are who they say they are. If you are interested in what they're offering, call them back at a telephone number you find in a directory or ask for the company website address and make the purchase there.
Reserve Cars and Lodging
These days it is nearly impossible to reserve a room or rent a car without a credit card. It's that simple. In addition, some credit cards provide travel insurance, emergency card replacement or other services.
Emergencies
If your car breaks down while you're away or some other emergency pops up, it's nice to have a way to pay for repairs or a quick flight home. Of course, if you've been following your spending plan you will have some savings available to pay the bill when it comes and that's nice too.
