Program Description
Social Science majors takes courses in the departments of Anthropology, Economics, Geography, History, Political Science, Psychology and Sociology. It is designed to serve both as a major for a Bachelor of Arts degree and to provide subject matter preparation for the Single Subject Teacher Credential in Social Science approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC)
Students should seek advising every semester until they graduate because the program involves work in several departments and there are special rules that overlap with general education
The aim of the Social Science Program is directed towards the single subject Social Science teacher credential. However, the program also provides an opportunity for students to build on the foundation of their general education and become familiar with several areas in the Social Sciences. Some career paths students have gone into are public service for the State, law enforcement, school administrator, management, counseling, and personnel recruiter. Non-credential students need not complete the professional education program and elective courses may be taken to complete the 124-unit Bachelor of Arts degree
