(Continuous enrollment is defined as enrollment at least 1 semester or 2 quarters per calendar year in a community college, CSU campus, or other accredited university.)a. B. GE PROGRAM, MAJOR PROGRAM OVERLAP RULES
1. A minimum of 24 (36) units and 12 (18) upper division units, specifically, in the BA (BS) major must not be overlapped with another major or minor.2. A maximum of 6 lower division units of coursework from the major department may be overlapped with the GE Program.(Lower division coursework from other departments that is used in a student's major program may be overlapped without limit.)
3. No upper division units of coursework from the major department may be overlapped with the GE Program, whether or not the units are used to satisfy major requirements.
4. Overlap rules exist which are specific to particular major programs.
C. GE UPPER DIVISION AND RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS
Nine units of GE coursework must be taken in residency at CSUS and nine units of upper division GE coursework must be taken, regardless of whether a student has fulfilled all other requirements of the GE Program at a community college. In practice, this means that some students will have to take GE course units in excess of the 51 units required in the GE Program. Courses taken at another CSU System campus count for upper division credit.
D. DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION TO TAKE THE WPE: The WPE should be taken by the time junior-level status has been attained (56 units). It must be taken by the time 74 units have been accumulated or a hold will be placed on registration privileges.
E. OVERLAP OF RACE AND ETHNICITY AND ADVANCED STUDY COURSE REQUIREMENTS WITH GE REQUIREMENTS: Courses listed in the various GE Program Areas which are race and ethnicity or advanced study courses or both may be used to fulfill the race and ethnicity and/or advanced study requirement(s) as well as the GE Area requirement. If such courses are upper division, they will also fulfill the GE upper division unit requirement.
