Test Accommodation Guidelines
- CONTACT SSWD
-
Meet with an SSWD counselor in person and provide written verification and documentation of your disability. Consult with an SSWD counselor regarding specific accommodation requests early in the semester. After the appropriate accommodations have been established, use the Request for Letters of Test/Course Accommodations Form to make a request for future semesters. Letters will be available five working days after request is submitted.
- GET YOUR LETTERS
-
Pick up your accommodation letters from SSWD and deliver them to your professors within the first two weeks of classes or as soon as possible for students who are certified within the semester. Keep one copy for yourself. The letter is a formal document that you may not alter. The Testing Center has a copy of the letter.
- CONTACT FACULTY EARLY
-
At the beginning of each semester, review your course syllabi to determine the frequency and type of test (essay, short answer, etc.) involved. Personally contact faculty regarding the approved accommodations and provide instructors with SSWD’s written accommodation letter, within the first two weeks of classes, or as soon as feasible for students who are certified within the semester. If a disagreement arises regarding the accommodations, discuss the situation with an SSWD counselor immediately.
- SCHEDULE YOUR CLASS EXAMS
-
You must reserve a time slot for each exam in the Testing Center. Whenever possible, reserve a time slot that coincides with the regular class time for the exam. Identify yourself as a student with a disability and discuss the accommodations authorized by your counselor. Schedule your exams in advance, within the appropriate time frame, to ensure accommodations will be in place (see below):
Regular class exams: At least 1 week prior to the regular class exam time.
Final exams: As soon as possible in the semester and at least 3 weeks prior to exam date.
The Testing Center is not the only testing site. The professor can make other arrangements in the academic department or school if he/she can provide the approved accommodations at another appropriate site on campus.
- USING A COMPUTER FOR TESTS
-
If you need a computer for class tests, Eng 109W, or WPE, you need to meet with your counselor, sign the policy for computer testing accommodations and complete the form for computer request, specifying your hardware/software and adaptive technology needs. Your counselor can provide you with a list of available software and hardware. You must be proficient with all hardware/software requested. All class tests need to be scheduled in the Testing Center. The only exception is for the English 109W class (schedule with Beverly Reed in Calaveras Hall, Room 109). Do not schedule your tests in the High Tech Center.
- PICK UP INSTRUCTOR FORMS
-
Pick up instructor Testing Accommodation Instruction forms (green sheets) from the Testing Center and give the forms to your instructors immediately. The instructors must complete this form and return it to the Testing Center with the exam.
Confirm with the professor and the Testing Center staff that the instructor approval and accommodations are in place prior to the exam. You should not take the exam if accommodations are not setup or approved by the faculty. Work with the Testing Center staff and your SSWD counselor to resolve the situation.
- ALLOW EXTRA TIME
-
Allow extra time before and after each exam to accommodate any possible delays or problems.
- WPE
-
Request a test accommodation letter from your SSWD counselor as soon as possible and no later than the Friday of the first week during the WPE registration period.
A test accommodation letter must be requested each time you take the WPE test.
During the WPE registration period, you will need to sign up for the WPE on the Testing Center website: www.csus.edu/testing.
When you register online for the WPE just check "accommodations." Your accommodations will be arranged based on your test accommodation letter. If you have any questions, please contact Gloria Cisneros in the Testing Center (916)278-6296.
- ENGLISH 109W
-
Request a test accommodation letter from your counselor as soon as possible and no later than the Friday of the second week of the semester.
Submit your test accommodation letter to Beverly Reed in Calaveras Hall, Room 109, to arrange accommodations.
- ELM & EPT
-

Submit your test accommodation letter and registration form to the Testing Center each time you take the ELM and EPT.
- OTHER STANDARDIZED TESTS (GRE, CBEST, GMAT, etc.)
-

If a break has been authorized during your exams, it must be taken inside the Testing Center. You may not leave the building or the Testing Center. Restroom breaks are approved by SSWD counselors only for documented needs.
PROBLEMS
If problems occur with your reader or scribe during the test, notify the Testing Center staff that you are experiencing difficulties with the testing under the provided conditions. The Testing Center will attempt to resolve the problems immediately.
