Project PASS has many student positions, both paid and volunteer.  The majority of our recruitment occurs at the end of the Spring semester, for work in the following academic year.  Please read the snippet of information below, review the job description and application, and email the listed designee if you have any questions.  We look forward to hearing from you!

PAL Leader

PAL Leaders are student facilitators of our Peer-Assisted Learning (PAL) courses.  PAL courses have curricular structure that encourages cross-year support between students in science and math gateway courses. PAL courses encourages students to support each other and to learn co-operatively under the guidance of trained students, called PAL Leaders, who have successfully completed the same course.

PASS Student Advisor

PASS Student Advisors are trained advisors who assist students enrolled in STEM gateway courses who have been identified by the course instructor as currently being “at risk” for poor academic success in the class.  The PASS Student Advisor will work individually with each student referred to the program to discuss their currently situation and to collaboratively create an individualized academic success plan.  PASS Student Advisors will refer students to campus resources and provide practical information such as how to complete remediation requirements, preparatory coursework for specific courses and STEM majors, meet unit requirements and make grade point calculations. 

Currently PASS Advisors advise for CHEM 4, CHEM 1A, and MATH 29 courses.

STEM Mentor Coordinator

The STEM Mentor Coordinator works in coordination with the PASS Advising Coordinator to provide assistance to students who may be struggling in Math and Science gateway courses.  The Mentor Coordinator is responsible for communicating with the Mentors about their mentee, sharing updates, assigning Mentors to workshops, and seeking answers to questions.  The Mentor Coordinator is also responsible for the STEM Mentor (volunteer) duties listed below.

STEM Mentor (volunteer)

Mentors are experienced college students helping their fellow peers to be successful and sharing tips on how to thrive academically.  Students will be referred to a Mentor as a way to get back on track and find support from a peer.  Mentors work with mentee(s) to find resources on campus, learn the best ways to study, to be encouraged to continue, and to answer questions their mentee may ask or find the answer to their questions.
