The Center for STEM Excellence presents a wide variety of public programs designed to help inspire young people to pursue studies and careers in science and technology.

Regional STEM Pipeline Summit
April 2007 - Sacramento State hosted "Building the STEM Pipeline: Partnerships for Innovation," a day-long dialogue where more than 150 industry leaders, educators, community representatives and governmental officials began to develop a strategy for expanding and strengthening the regional STEM pipeline.

Expanding Your Horizons
October 2007 - Sacramento State hosted a one-day conference for 300 6-8th grade girls, aimed at encouraging their interest in STEM careers through hands-on classes. "I think this is a good opportunity to get girls involved in science and technology," says Catalina Jimenez, mother of one of the students. "My daughter learned to build a car that runs on water."

Robot Competition
February 2007 - Engineering students organized the 2007 "Smackdown in Sactown," a battle of 16-inch robots designed and built by students.

Scholars Public Lecture
STEM scholars discuss current topics from volcanoes to video games, sharing their research with the community. Talks are free and are designed for a general audience.

Engineering Career Fair
Employers such as Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, PG&E and Teichert came to recruit Sacramento State engineering grads in spring 2007.
