Associate Vice President for Student Engagement & Support (SES)
Beth Lesen currently serves as the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs for Student Engagement and Success at Sacramento State. Passionate about facilitating students’ educational success and personal development through rich, engaging co-curricular experiences and opportunities, Beth provides leadership to the following departments: Academic Advising, Associated Students, the Career Center, Guardian Scholars, Housing and Residence Life, the Multicultural, PRIDE and Women’s Resource Centers, Orientation, Services to Students with Disabilities, Student Organizations and Leadership, and the Testing Center.
Beth’s first experience working in higher education was as a Learning Specialist and Advisor for student-athletes. Over the course of an eighteen-year career in higher education, she has worked for state and city universities on both the east and west coasts and has consistently prioritized serving diverse, public institutions with missions of access. Beth is committed to inclusivity and social justice and truly enjoys mentoring and developing talented staff. In addition to her broad base of administrative experience in Student Affairs, Beth also has twelve years’ experience teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. She holds a master’s degree in Education and a doctorate in Psychology from the University at Buffalo. Beth can frequently be spotted in various locations throughout campus working with a wide variety of student groups.
