Services to Students with Disabilities
Judy Dean was appointed Co-Director of Services to Students with Disabilities (SSWD) in 2006. In her current capacity, she oversees the Counseling and Accommodation/Support Services program for students with disabilities. She also collaborates with other campus entities toward addressing physical access issues for students and on-campus faculty and staff. Prior to her current position, Judy served as a Disability Management Counselor within SSWD for nearly 18 years. In this position, she worked with students with a variety of physical and psychological disabilities to establish eligibility, implement accommodations, and provide supplemental academic support services. She also coordinated the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (HOH) services, including expansion of sign language interpreting services and the introduction of a new program in CART (Communication Access Realtime Translation) services.
Judy received her master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from Indiana University, Bloomington. She also earned her graduate Certificate in Adult Learning Disabilities at Sacramento State and completed additional training in the Community College Learning Disabilities Eligibility Model in 2008. Prior to her service at Sacramento State, Judy worked in both agency and university settings as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor, a Disability Evaluator, and an Academic Advisor for re-entry students.
