Senior Vice President's Message

Dear Sacramento State Student,

Dr VarlottaWelcome! Whether you’re new at Sac State or a returning student, we are happy to have you. Our mission in the Division of Planning, Enrollment Management and Student Affairs (PEMSA) is to ensure your college experience is academically and socially enriching, and prepares you to be a healthy, productive member of your community.

Although Sac State is a large university—we have about 28,000 students—we are proud to have a close-knit community. That means when you need us, we’re here.

With 31 departments, including the recent addition of Student Academic Success and Educational Equity Programs (SASEEP) and Athletics, and over 500 full-time staff, PEMSA is here to support you on every step of your educational journey: to get you in to school through admission, to make you feel comfortable on campus through orientation, to help with financial aid, to offer advice on courses through academic advising, to provide opportunities to stay active and healthy, and so much more.

While Sac State’s community is built on the common goal of supporting students, it’s special for another reason: its diversity. Diversity is more than a bragging right at Sacramento State—it defines us. Our unique students help create welcoming spaces like the Multi-Cultural Center, the Women’s Resource Center, and the PRIDE Center. Each of these centers hosts events that help students stay connected to the campus community and be successful throughout the year.

These centers are just one way to become an active, involved member of your campus. Student Organizations & Leadership and the University Union’s UNIQUE program also provide opportunities such as leadership training, community service, concerts, workshops, and entertaining and informative lectures and movies.

With more than 280 student mccclubs and organizations, if there isn’t a club for whatever you’re into—sports, outdoor activities, playing video games, technology, politics, or films—you can start one.

Research shows that students who get involved in the campus community do better in their classes and are more likely to graduate.

Since you’ve already made it this far, go a bit further and make the most of college by being fully involved in college life.

PEMSA's commitment goes beyond support and helping you get involved. In every interaction, we strive to model and instill our core values:

  • Integrity
  • Collaboration
  • Empowerment
  • Respect for Diversity
  • Service to Students

We’re here to help. If you have any questions, please ask! We wish you the best during your time with us. Remember, college is the time in your life to define what’s possible for your future.

Sincerely,

Dr. Lori Varlotta
