Testing Accommodations for Students Registered with SSWD

The Testing Center provides testing accommodations ONLY for students registered with the office of Services to Students with Disabilities (SSWD). Students registered with SSWD are able to take exams in an environment with reduced distractions using tools usually not available in the classroom. Some of the disability-related testing accommodations the Testing Center can provide include readers, scribes, wheelchair accessible tables, adjustable tables, adjustable computer stands, and computer-assisted and computer-adaptive testing software. Please note that all accommodations are determined by an SSWD counselor.

During the Fall and Spring semester, Accommodated group room test times are 12:30pm on Monday and 8:30am and 12:30pm Tuesday-Thursday. Students arriving after 8:45am or 12:45pm will not be admitted to the testing room. Testing with Accommodations Instruction Forms must be completed by faculty and submitted with the exam. Please DO NOT fax or email exams! Testing appointments should be made at least (5) days in advance.

Students authorized for “quiet room/small group room appropriate for testing” by their SSWD counselor may click the links to schedule testing times below. EXCEPTION: Computer-based testing is NOT offered in the group room. If you have accommodations for quiet room/small group room and have an exam on SacCT or any other computer-based exam, please see list of open computers labs on campus or the Laptop Loan Service as other options. If you have any additional questions about your accommodations, please contact SSWD at (916) 278-6955 (voice) or 278-7239 (TTY).

Students registered with SSWD and authorized for private rooms or other Testing Center resources listed on their Certification of Test/Course Accommodations must schedule appointments with the Testing Center in person or by calling (916) 278-6296.

NOTE: Appointments scheduled here by students who are not registered with SSWD will NOT be honored.

Writing Placement for Juniors (WPJ)

All undergraduate students with 60 units must take the first step toward satisfying the Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement (GWAR) by taking the Writing Placement for Juniors (WPJ) test OR the English 109M or 109W class.

For answers to many of the most frequently asked questions about the GWAR requirement, the WPJ test, the ENGL 109M/109W class, and other related topics, please refer to the GWAR website.

For more information about the WPJ test or the English 109M/109W class, please refer to the Writing Program’s Office website.

If we do not have an approved accommodations form by the registration deadline, your test registration will be cancelled and you may not receive the accommodations you need.

A make-up exam is available after each test date for students who are not able to attend the day of the exam for religious, academic, medical, or emergency reasons. To qualify for the make-up exam, students must register for the test and then send their request by email to english@csus.edu including the following information by 12:00pm (noon) on Monday following the exam:  name, student ID number, registration confirmation number, and back-up information (such as a written statement on letterhead from your clergy, proof of a conflicting exam appointment, a class schedule showing a Saturday course, a letter from your coach showing a conflicting athletic event, or a doctor’s note or police accident report proving an emergency on the day of the exam).  Students who have other compelling reasons for missing the exam may submit a written request with any back up information via email to english@csus.edu. Written requests will also be accepted in the English Department in Calaveras Hall room 103. Once the online registration period for the WPJ closes, make-up requests will only be considered for students who already registered online for the Saturday exam. Approved request will be sent via Sac link email by 12pm on the Tuesday following the exam.
