Testing Services

 

Testing for Students with Disabilities

Students registered with Services to Students with Disabilities, (SSWD), are able to take exams in an environment free from distractions, with tools usually not available in the classroom. Some of the testing accommodations available to students are; readers and scribes, computer assisted and computer adaptive software, and wheelchair accessible and adjustable tables. Testing hours are by appointment, Mondays through Thursdays, 9 AM to 5 PM and Fridays, 9 AM-12 Noon. Testing Accommodation Instruction forms are to be completed by faculty and submitted with the exam. Exams should not be faxed or e-mailed.

Students authorized "Quiet room/small group room appropriate for testing" schedule below. Students registered with SSWD and authorized private rooms, or other Testing Center resources listed on their Certification of Test/Course Accommodation, schedule appointments with the Testing Center receptionist or by calling (916) 278-6296.

Appointments scheduled here by students who do not have special testing accommodations, will not be honored.

Make Up Exam Program

The Make up Exam Program is designed for students unable to take exams at the time they are administered in the classroom, and for faculty requiring an alternate, secure test site to have exams administered.  Exams are given evenings Monday-Thursday at 5 PM, during the academic year. The fee is $6.00 per exam.  Computers are not available for testing.  Faculty, who choose to use this service, submit the test and a Testing Instruction form, to the Testing Center, Lassen Hall 2302. Exams should not be faxed or emailed.

Writing Proficiency Exam (WPE)

The Writing Proficiency Exam is required to satisfy the Graduate Writing Assessment Requirement before graduation. Students must take the WPE in the first semester of their junior year. See "Graduation Requirements in Writing" in the online class schedule or contact the WPE office, Calaveras Hall room 111, (916) 278-6409 for complete information.

Online registration for the Saturday, July 26, 2008 WPE is Monday July 7th - Friday July 18th, 2008

Challenge Exams

Departments offering students academic credit by examination can have exams administered by the Testing Center. Appointments must be scheduled in advance for individual or group testing.

Master’s Comprehensive Exams

The Testing Center administers comprehensive exams for the Communication Studies Department, the Department of Special Education, Rehabilitation and School Psychology and the Foreign Language Department.

Psychological Testing

The Testing Center administers personality tests, vocational interest tests, and ability and aptitude tests for the departments of Psychology, Counselor Education, Recreation and Leisure Studies, and Communication Studies. Sac State students with a referral from faculty or qualified university staff may schedule appointments to take psychological tests.

Correspondence Exams

The Testing Center administers correspondence exams on a limited basis and by appointment only.

Consultation

The Testing Center works with faculty and administrators to address issues such as ethics in testing and the appropriateness of certain tests, for specific purposes.

Test Library

Students enrolled in test assessment courses or who are assigned projects relating to assessment may have use of the Test Library by appointment. While the Testing Center cannot furnish materials to students who must give a test as a project, we will assist in the evaluation and selection of the appropriate instruments.
