Using the Testing Center

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES

STUDENTS REGISTERED WITH SSWD must obtain a CERTIFICATION OF TEST/COURSE ACCOMMODATIONS from your SSWD counselor. Accommodations can only be determined by SSWD.  You must update your letter each semester. Please see SSWD for more information.

Scheduling an Exam
For each exam, you are responsiblie for notifying your instructor about your accommodations and scheduling your appointments.  You must provide a Testing with Accommodations Instruction Form, with your information completed, to your instructor. Hard copies are available in the Testing Center.

  • All appointments are encouraged to be scheduled as soon as possible, since space is limited.  Shall your scheduled appointment change, you must obtain instructor approval prior to making any changes and your instructor must let us know via email/telephone that it is OK for you to rescedule your appointment.
  • If your testing accommodations indicate "small group room appropriate for testing" you may schedule an appointment here: Testing Appointments for SSWD Students with Extended Time.  During the Fall and Spring semesters, accommodated group room test times are 12:30pm on Monday, and 8:30am and 12:30pm Tuesday-Thursday.

Please note that it is your responsibility to make sure your exam is received in the Testing Center, by your instructor, before your scheduled date/time.

If your testing accommodations indicate that you are allowed the use of a private room or computer, please schedule an appointment by calling the Testing Center at (916) 278-6296 or coming by in-person.

If the exam is on SacCT or any other computer-based exam and can be taken outside of the classroom, please see list of open computer labs on campus or the Laptop Loan Service as other options.

On the day of your Exam
You must be on time.  Students arriving after 8:45am or 12:45pm will not be admitted to the testing room and may need to reschedule.  If you are late and you need to reschedule, you must obtain instructor approval prior to rescheduling and your instructor must let us know via email/telephone that it is OK for you to rescedule your appointment. 

Make sure to have an acceptable photo ID and any materials that are allowed to be used for the exam.  An example of acceptable ID are current CA driver's license or ID, OneCard, valid passport with your signature, or military ID all with a recognizable photo.  Unacceptable ID includes a Social Securty card, credit card (including one with a photo), birth certificate (includiing wallet-size birth certificates), or etc.  If you do not have an acceptable ID, you will not be admitted in the testing room.

Testing Room Regulations
All personal belongings must be stored in a locker provided by the Testing Center.  You may not bring any electronic device into the testing room as well as the following:

  • Any headwear (such as a beanie, hoodie, hat, etc.)
  • Food or beverages, unless noted on your testing accommodations.
  • Unauthorized notes, text books, or any testing aids.  All resource materials brought into the testing room will be examined thoroughly.  Unauthorized notes/aids used during the exam will be returned to the instructor.
  • If you are allowed to use a calculator, the cover of the calculator must be taken off.  It is not allowed in the testing rooms.
  • If you are allowed to use notes during the exam, your notes will be collected and returned with your test to your insturctor. Shall you wish to retain your notes, you must contact your instructor.

Breaks are allowed, however, students are not permitted to leave the testing building once the exam has been viewed.  All breaks must be taken in the Testing Center.  If you leave the testing building, you will not be allowed back in the testing room.

Please note that computer-based testing is not offered in the group room as well as any electronic device (such as iPad, tablet, cell phone, PDA, etc.).


STUDENTS THAT ARE UNABLE TO TAKE THE EXAM WITH THE CLASS (this is considered a MAKE-UP EXAM for our purposes)
If you are not able to take an exam with the class, you may schedule an appointment to take your make-up exam here: Makeup Exam Online Registration.

During the Fall and Spring semesters, make-up exam testing times are 9:00am on Monday and 9:00am and 1:00pm on Friday.  Since space is limited, all appointments are encouraged to be scheduled as soon as possible and get prior approval from your instructor about using our facilities.  Once you have recieved approval from your instructor and you have scheduled an appointment, you must obtain an instruction form to give to your instructor. Hard copies are available at the Testing Center.  Please note that it is your responsibility to make sure your exam is received in the Testing Center, by your instructor, before your scheduled date/time.

You must also have a check or money order for the amount of $6.00 made payable to CSUS.  We do NOT accept cash, credit, debit, or OneCard.  If you do not have your payment, you will not be admitted in the testing room.

Due to a lack of space, we cannot administer online or computer based make-up exams. All makeup exams must be paper-based.  If the exam is on SacCT or any other computer-based exam and can be taken outside of the classroom, please see list of open computer labs on campus or the Laptop Loan Service as other options.

FACULTY RESPONSIBILITIES

An instruction form must be given to you by the student with their information as well as their scheduled appointment.  You are to complete the form and submit the form with the exam before or on the student’s exam appointment date.  Please make sure that the following areas are indicated:

  • what resources the student is allowed to use on the exam, if any.  Please note, if the student is allowed to use notes, testing staff/proctor will collect the notes and return your test with the notes.  Students may pick up the notes from you, shall they wish to recieve them back.
  • what answer materials the student will need for the exam, if any. All scantrons and blue/green books are provided by the Testing Center.
  • how much time the class is given to complete this exam. Please do not extend the time for students with testing accommodations as Testing Center Staff will do this.
  • whether the completed exam should be mailed back via campus mail, held for pick-up, or student return. If return instruction is not indicated, exams will be mailed back.  Please note that the Testing Center is not responsible for any exam(s) once they have been mailed back.  If you are picking up exams, please have an acceptable photo ID with you.
  • if there is a last date the student may take the exam.

Receiving/Returning Exams
Exams may be submitted to our office via campus mail or in person by you or the student (in a sealed envelope).  We do not accept electronic copies of the exam.  Please make sure you indicate how you want your exam(s) returned:  hold for pickup, campus mail, or student return. 

Hold for pickup:  If you indicate that you want your exam(s) to be held for pickup, please make sure that you bring acceptable photo ID (ie. driver's license, OneCard, etc.).  If you do not bring acceptable photo ID, we cannot release the exam to you.  If you plan to have a Department Staff or Student Assistant pick up your exam, you must indicate this on the form.  The Department Staff or Student Assistant must bring an acceptable photo ID.  If they do not bring an acceptable photo ID, we cannot release the exam to them.  

Campus mail:  If you indicate that you want your exam(s) to be returned by campus mail, please make sure that you enter in a campus zip.  If you do not specify a campus zip, the Testing Center will return the exam to the department listed.  The department and campus zip must be accurate to ensure delivery to the correct department and mailbox. Please anticipate the lag time for campus mail.  We receive campus mail pick-up and delivery only once a day.  Delivery may take anywhere between 1-5 business days.

Student return:  If you indicate that you would like to have your student drop off the exam to you, a Testing Center Staff will put the completed exam in a sealed envelope addressing it to you.

Classroom Make-Up
The Testing Center is not available for entire classroom testing as we do not have the space. Please accommodate such needs through your department.
