There has been no better time to be part of the College of Health and Human Services.

As we celebrate the launch of The Campaign for Nursing, we remain steadfast in advancing nursing education and improving the quality of health care. At the core is our ability to recruit and retain first-rate faculty who will prepare our students for real-world situations with an innovative curriculum incorporating simulation labs in our state-of-the-art facility in Folsom Hall.

The School of Nursing’s move to Folsom Hall significantly increased the amount of classroom and laboratory space available for student use – from 10,000 to 60,000 square feet – supporting active learning experiences and facilitating teaching efforts. The new space also promotes an environment that supports communication and collaboration, enhances our faculty’s ability to conduct multidisciplinary research and serve the community.

Alumni, emeriti faculty, friends, and corporate and foundation partners have stepped forward as more than $1.3 million has been received in gifts and pledges since we began the silent phase of the campaign in fall 2009. We are even more pleased to report that nearly 100 nursing alumni have contributed – including a special group pledge of $10,000 from our most recent graduates in the Class of 2011. We can never say thank you enough for your early commitment and dedication.

Now, with more than 50 years of nursing education behind us, we are breaking new ground again: providing additional financial support to our students, developing the most innovative program in nursing education and the completion of the Simulation Learning Center. Programmatic, capital and endowed support from our alumni and friends will ensure that we can continue to meet the highest levels of excellence in education, applied research, and community collaboration.

Your support allows us to continue to flourish as we prepare the diverse and competent workforce that is synonymous with Sac State’s rich history. I hope you will join us in celebrating our many successes and in shaping our future during this exciting and extraordinary time.
