Why we give: This is putting our words into action
BloodSource has been helping to save lives for more than 60 years, and Sacramento State’s nursing program has been doing the same for nearly as long. When the opportunity arose for BloodSource to develop a new connection with the campus by supporting the University’s nursing program, it was an easy decision for the center to make.
“This is putting our words into action,” says Mike Fuller, BloodSource CEO. “We’ve always seen Sac State as an incredible partner, and now we have an even stronger relationship there. To be part of the growth of its nursing program is something very special to all of our employees.”
BloodSource is one of northern and central California’s leading blood collection centers. It regularly holds blood drives on campus including the annual Causeway Classic blood drive.
“It’s not hard to connect the dots and imagine a nurse who graduated from Sac State’s nursing program suspending a unit of blood—perhaps donated by a Sac State student—and saving the life of a patient,” says BloodSource Vice President for Public Affairs Leslie Botos.
Earlier this year, BloodSource elected to name a portion of Folsom Hall, the new home of the University’s nursing program.
“I’m a believer in first impressions being really important, and to be able to walk into the fabulous new facility and see the BloodSource Nursing Lobby is outstanding. We are very excited about it,” says Botos. “It’s a visible sign of our commitment to the programs at Sac State, and we look at the lobby as the beginning of what we will be able to do in partnership with Sac State in the future.”
