CHILDREN AND CHILD CARE AT EVENTS
Last updated: April 9 2002
GENERAL STATEMENT
As the number of students with children increases and more events
attract families with children to the Union, the need for a
childcare policy has increased. The Union cannot accept responsibility
for children under 18 years of age in the building.
GUDIELINES AND PROCEDURES:
A parent or guardian must accompany children under the age of
18 while they are in the Union. Children may attend events in
the Union as long as they are with (physically near) their parent
or guardian at all times. Event sponsors who wish to plan portions
of their event with children out of the room must make arrangements
for an additional event space, of appropriate size, to accommodate
them. Children in that space must be supervised by a reasonable
number of adults, not to exceed 10 children to one adult. The
event sponsor is responsible for staffing and programming the
room.
At no time is it acceptable for parents, guardians or event
sponsors to allow children to wander the building unsupervised.
Children must also be instructed not to visit the Games Room
or the Food Service areas unless they are supervised. Children
who are found by Union staff without an adult guardian will
be remanded to the custody of a CSUS Public Safety officer.
