About the Foundation
The University Foundation at Sacramento State invests and distributes funds for the benefit of the University.
Led by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of prominent professionals and business leaders, the University Foundation is the University’s primary philanthropic auxiliary and is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization. The Board of Directors meets regularly to offer guidance on investments and thoroughly manage the gift funds to ensure that they can fulfill their designated purposes.
The University Foundation at Sacramento State has a history of supporting student-centered programs that further the University’s mission to provide an excellent education to those who aspire to expand their knowledge and prepare themselves for meaningful lives, careers and service to their community.
The University Foundation at Sacramento State promotes philanthropy to provide a level of excellence at the University beyond what is possible through state funds.
The members of the Board of Directors of The University Foundation at Sacramento State accomplish this goal by helping to raise private resources that advance the mission and priorities of the University, and serving as ambassadors for philanthropy in the University community. The board provides stewardship in the prudent investment of resources, ensuring the integrity of the Foundation through accountability and transparency in its dealings.
The University Foundation was originally established in 1986 as the CSUS Trust Foundation. On July 1, 2006, it was renamed The University Foundation at Sacramento State and it continues as the University’s primary philanthropic auxiliary supporting teaching, learning and service by acquiring and managing financial resources for the University.
The University Foundation provides a unique and invaluable service to the campus by prudently investing endowment funds with the goal of generating a reliable income stream while assuring long-term growth. As a 501(c)(3) organization, The University Foundation has greater flexibility in investments than the University, which as a political subdivision of the State of California may not invest in securities.
Donors may give gifts to The University Foundation at Sacramento State for specific campus purposes and obtain tax benefits in accordance with State of California and United States federal laws. All funds managed by The University Foundation at Sacramento State are used for the benefit of the University, honoring any restrictions placed on them by the donor. Gift funds are held in non-state accounts and audited annually.
A Message from the Board Chair
Pam Stewart, Chair
The University Foundation at
After a memorable, eventful and fruitful year for the University and for The University Foundation at Sacramento State, I’m pleased to report that once again, Sacramento State has been the recipient of outstanding support from our alumni and community.
That generosity is a testament to the hard work of our volunteer Board of Directors and University team members.
One of the Board’s most important charges is to look after the financial health of the Foundation. Through prudent management of our portfolio in 2014-15, we distributed a 4 percent payout on the endowment, resulting in nearly $1 million dollars in support for our students.
Other milestones included our most successful Green and Gold Gala to date, raising more than $450,000 for scholarships. And for the fifth year in a row, the campus exceeded its fundraising goal, bringing in more than $15 million in gifts and commitments to support students and programs at the University. Donors also established 27 new endowments.
On behalf of the Board, I want to thank you for all you do for Sacramento State and our students and I look forward to working with you to make 2015-16 an even more successful fundraising year.
