Bicycling - An attractive alternative to driving a car is bicycling. Bicycling is a great way to commute to the campus and lets you get your exercise at the same time! There is a free bicycle compound on campus located adjacent to the Guy West Bridge.  The compound accommodates approximately 420 bicycles and is free to students, faculty and staff.  University Transportation & Parking Services(UTAPS) student assistants staff the bike compound during the Fall and Spring semesters from 7:00am - 11:00pm, Monday - Thursday and 7:00am - 5:00pm on Friday. Additionally, bicycle racks are available for use throughout the campus. Also, bicycle lockers are available for rent through ASI Peak Adventures at (916) 278-6321.

Walking - This is a great way to get to school or work. Besides reducing traffic congestion, walking is another great way to get exercise! Walking at 3 miles per hour burns about 60 - 80 calories per mile. Walking saves money, too! The average automobile commute costs about 35 cents per mile, while walking is virtually free. There are several excellent pedestrian pathways throughout the campus as well as easy access to the campus by way of the Guy West Bridge.

Carpooling- Carpool parking spaces are available for students and employees at Sacramento State. Student carpool spaces are located in Lot 2 and in Parking Structure1. Faculty/Staff only carpool parking spaces are located in Lot 1. Carpool permits may be obtained at the UTAPS office.

Find out how much you save by pressing this button .  Then, visit  Commute ChoicesAlterNetRides is Sacramento State's free carpool matching system exclusively for students, faculty and staff.  Schedule a one-day carpool vacation or sign up as a semester-long carpooler.  Once you sign up, AlterNetRides will automatically find potential carpoolers that you can contact, based on the information you provide.  You are able to contact people using "blind email".  This means that you do not have to give the other person your name, phone number, email address, physical address or any other personal information until you feel absolutely confident and safe that the other person is ok to speak to by means other than blind email.  You decide if you want to give the other person that information via regular email, on the phone or in person. REMEMBER:  Ultimately your safety is your responsibility!  You will have the option of signing up as a driver only, passenger only or share the driving.

The Hornet Express Shuttle provides a convenient mode of transportation around the campus loop, to and from the "Campus/La Riviera", "Fulton/Bell" and "Howe/Arden Fair" areas. Individuals stay in touch through the use of electronic devices. For more information, please refer to Sacramento State document #PM FSA 93-06.

Alternative Fuel Vehicles- In an effort to address air quality concerns and reduce air pollutants overall, several automobile manufacturers have developed vehicles which utilize alternative fuels. Currently, the most popular are vehicles which utilize electricity, compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG). For more information about Air Quality the following website is available: www.sparetheair.com.

Guaranteed Ride Home - Another benefit available to employees that "rideshare" at least 60% of the time is the Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH) Program. All campus employees who employ some method of ridesharing at least 3 days per week now have the opportunity to participate in this program. This benefit is offered by the Sacramento Transportation Management Association (SacTMA) and is a no cost, non-taxable benefit available to you as a ridesharing commuter. You must be registered in Commuter Club, through the SacTMA website to take advantage of this benefit. Click here to register and download a Guaranteed Ride Home voucher.
