Technical Information

About VPN

  1. The campus uses a CISCO VPN 3000 series box.
  2. We do not use Certificates, so if the client requires the VPN box to use Certificates, that client will not work.

Wireless Cards

Wireless network cards need to be 802.11b compliant. These are available at the Hornet Bookstore.

Using a Personal Firewall

If you have a personal firewall active on your computer, you will need to configure your firewall to open up the appropriate ports and allow ESP packets to establish a connection.

If you are using the VPN client on campus, open IP ports 50 and 51 and UDP port 500.

If you are using the VPN client from off campus, open TCP port 10,000.

Duplicate Computer Name Exists on the Network Error

If you receive the error "Duplicate computer name exists on the Network," then follow these directions at to fix this error.

Campus VPN Accessible SSID List

Each wireless network zone has its own service set identifier (SSID). Some zones cannot be accessed via VPN because they are restricted and/or offer alternate access. Additionally, some wireless network clients and/or configurations need to have the SSID added manually. Please refer to the list on the Sac State Wireless Networking pages to determine the valid VPN accessible SSID for the zone in which you are trying to connect.
