Sequencing Writing Assignments

 

Following are techniques for sequences a series of writing assignments:

Sequencing using the reading and writing process

quick writes, microthemes, response journals, topic proposal, peer response workshop, instructor response to draft, research paper portfolio

Sequencing using Bloom's Taxonomy: low level of abstraction to high level of abstraction (see below for Bloom's Taxonomy)

define key terms, abstracts, reading journals, class debate, argument essay with self-reflection memo

Sequencing using stages in a larger project or a series of smaller assignments

abstract assignment, annotated bibliography assignment, editorial assignment integrating two sources, class presentation integrating five sources

Sequencing from personal writing to public writing

authority list, exploratory journals, personal narrative about the topic, peer response of research paper draft, website about the research topic
