Sequencing Writing Assignments

 

Following are techniques for sequences a series of writing assignments:

  • Sequencing using the reading and writing process
  • quick writes, microthemes, response journals, topic proposal, peer response workshop, instructor response to draft, research paper portfolio

  • Sequencing using Bloom's Taxonomy: low level of abstraction to high level of abstraction (see below for Bloom's Taxonomy)
  • define key terms, abstracts, reading journals, class debate, argument essay with self-reflection memo

  • Sequencing using stages in a larger project or a series of smaller assignments
  • abstract assignment, annotated bibliography assignment, editorial assignment integrating two sources, class presentation integrating five sources

  • Sequencing from personal writing to public writing
  • authority list, exploratory journals, personal narrative about the topic, peer response of research paper draft, website about the research topic
