"The Theory of Music”

Sara Valentine wrote "The Theory of Music" in Honors 1: Education, Self-Examination and Living. Sara's instructor, Vanessa Arnaud, asked students to develop an online reading portfolio with reading notes, summaries, free writing exercises, response essays, and personal narratives. The purpose of the portfolio is to use writing and reading processes to help students realize how reading and writing connect, and to help prepare students for their research paper by reflecting on their own reading theory and behavior. Sara's instructor and the reviewer for Writing the University felt Sara’s paper is an excellent example of work driven by personal inquiry.
