“Women of the Camps”
by Chase Van Etten
Chase Van Etten wrote "Women of the Camps" in ENGL1A: College Composition I. His instructor, Ruth Ochoa, asked students to write about the causes and effects of the Japanese-American Internment based on thier reading of Julie Otsuka’s When the Emperor was Divine, the One Book for 2010, as well as other historical documents and personal memoirs about the Japanese-American women’s experiences in the camps. Chase's instructor and the reviewer for Writing the University felt that Chase's essay takes an original perspective and is both informative and analytical.
