AWStats limitations:

  • History: You will only get 1 day of statistics prior to your profile being setup. For example, if your profile is setup on a Tuesday, your reports will only show traffic as far back as Monday. Your reports will continute to aggregate from that point on.
  • Servers: At this time, we are only analyzing the main web server logs, www.csus.edu. If you are on another server, contact us if you would like some consultation.
  • Reporting: AWstats reporting does not offer export option such as xml/PDF, etc. or many of the additional features that more advanced systems such as Google Analytics.

Requesting Webstats

To have a Webstats profile setup for your site, submit your request with the form below. AWStats will analyze all subdirectories. At this time, we can only offer AWStats for websites hosted on the campus webserver (www.csus.edu). The owner of the website that is being requested will be notified of the request

Your website's stats will be available within two business days.

Alternatives

AWStats is a very basic analytics solution, and some departments or individuals would prefer a more full-featured report. Web Services recommends Google Analytics for this purpose. While this requires a Google account, such an account is free, and can be tied to any email address (it doesn't have to be a gmail account). Google Analytics works by putting a JavaScript tag on your page (or preferably a template) that communicates with Google. The new template includes the campus Google Analytics code, and it is advised to keep this on all pages (you can always add more than one Google Analytics code to a page).
