Getting Started with Accessibility
90% of accessibility is following best practices. Those best practices are useful because they will create a better experience for all your site's visitors. This is because your page will be properly structured (and formatted), so users will be able to browse to the information they need faster.
It is important to know that most of accessibility is "hidden" from most information providers because a page's accessibility is determined by the code (HTML) behind it. For many information providers, they are more concerned with getting the page to "look" right instead of "be" right.
With the ATI, information providers are now asked to take more ownership of their sites. Instead of providing alternate versions on request, Sacramento State is committed to a culture of access, where each web page has accessibility built-in by default. While we recognize that not every page can be 100% accessible, our goal is to encourage information providers to follow best practices, and seek help when they need it.
