Approvals

The University's Web capacity is a shared resource. While it is large, it is not infinite. Individual pages that could affect the entire network because of their technical complexity need to be approved by University Computing and Communications Services.

Colors

All University Web pages must include one of the University's colors in its primary color scheme. Below are the official University colors (updated 10/28/2005).

Sacramento State Preferences

The word "university" is always capitalized in campus publications when it refers to the Sacramento State campus. If the reference is general to a university, then it is lowercase. For example, the style of this University is to capitalize the word "university" when it refers specifically to California State University, Sacramento.

Use chair, not chairman or chairwoman or chairperson. Use dean lowercase when referring to the position or more than one dean. Capitalize only when used in front of the name.

Elements

At the current time, the following specific elements are required on the Web pages of University offices, departments, colleges, programs, courses or faculty.

  • One University color must be used in the primary color scheme.
  • A link back to the Sacramento State home page.
  • Office, department, college, program or individual specific contact information.
  • Full name of the University.
  • All college and departmental home pages should have a link to Admissions
    and Records.

Name of the University

The University's formal and official name will remain "California State University, Sacramento." The nicknames will be "Sacramento State" and "Sac State." No other names should be used. Among the incorrect uses are: CSUS, Cal State Sacramento and CSU Sacramento (updated 10/28/2005).

A new identity package that utilizes the nicknames is being created. Specific guidelines about how the formal name and nicknames should be presented, and how they should interact with one another, in both printed and electronic material are being developed.

Under the adopted name system, the formal name will be used primarily on formal documents, including diplomas. “Sacramento State” will be used on materials created for general audiences, while “Sac State” may appear on materials for audiences that are highly familiar and close to the University, such as alumni.
