Issues

Assessment Error - Restoration of Exams
We successfully ran a script yesterday and it will restore an exam submission, which has the error as described below. Please do not reset the exam, since we can restore the student's submission. If your student experiences this problem, let us know at web-courses@csus.edu and we will restore the exam submission. The actual cause of this problem has not been resolved yet, so you may still see this error. The incidence of this error is still very small, so we recommend that everyone continue with their online exams. We are working with Blackboard to resolve the root cause and will keep you informed of the progress.

Description of Problem:
Several students reported that when taking an assessment, they could not submit the assessment. They received an error message "an unexpected system exception has occurred". When the instructor tries to review the student's attempt, the instructor sees the same error message. If the instructor reviews the attempt and sees this message, contact us at web-courses@csus.edu.

Prevent the Printing of Assessments
It was recently brought to our attention that there are concerns about the HTML code that prevents a user from printing a SacCT exam. For those not familiar with this option, instructors can manually add HTML code into each exam to prevent users from printing the exam. ATCS began providing this code approximately six years ago; the last time the code was changed was 2006. If you have the code from 2006, it will prevent users from printing the browser exam window. We understand that some may be using an older version, so we need to ensure that you have the latest 2006 code. The ATCS group quickly researched a new option that will ensure you have the latest version. If you are using the code, please read these instructions to replace your existing outdated code. You may also download the code.

It’s important to note that this code should be used in combination with other strategies to minimize cheating and should not be the only strategy to minimize cheating. To learn about other methods, please refer to Online Exams: Strategies to Minimize Cheating.
