Introduction to SacCT: Using Mail

Presented by ATCS (Academic Technology & Creative Services)
Sacramento State

The Mail tool in SacCT allows private messages to be sent from one user to another within a single course.  Messages cannot be sent to or received from e-mail addresses outside your SacCT course.

Accessing your Mail

  1. When activated by your instructor, you can find the Mail tool in the Course Tools menu.
  2. Click the Mail tool button to enter your mailbox.

Folders

Each user's mailbox initially contains four folders: Inbox, Sent Mail, Drafts and Deleted Mail. These are defined as follows:

  • Inbox contains all messages received.
  • Sent Mail contains all messages sent to other users.
  • Drafts contains messages you created and saved without sending to another user.
  • Deleted Mail contains messages that you deleted from other folders in your mailbox.

Create a new folder

  1. You can create additional folders by selecting the "Create Folder" button above your list of mailbox folders.
  2. Type the name of your new folder in the "Folder Name" box.
  3. Click "Create". The new folder now appears in your list of folders in your mailbox.

Rename a folder

  1. If you want to rename a folder you created, click the "ActionLinks" button next to the name of the folder, and select "Rename".
  2. Type the new name of the folder in the Folder Name box that appears.
  3. Click "Rename". The folder now appears with its new name.

Viewing messages

To view messages within a folder, click the name of the folder. The messages within that folder appear as a list on the right side of the screen.

    • If a message is unread, the icon before the subject is a closed envelope.
    • If a message has been read, the icon before the subject appears as an open envelope.
  • To read a message, click the subject of the message. The message opens in another browser window.
    • Click the “Reply” or “Reply to All” button to respond to the message.
