Allies Against Violence Program

Man's Program

A collaborative project of the Women’s Resource Center and the Student Health Center

What is the One Man Can Program?

The mission of the One Man Can Program is to engage men in taking a proactive role in ending violence towards women and other men. The Men’s Program will provide a comprehensive and culturally responsive program of education, outreach, mentoring and community service, which will help men develop a better understanding of themselves, assist them in fostering better relationships with others, and increase their involvement in changing their communities.

How to Get Involved:

Men and women interested in helping end violence can become involved in the One Man Can Program by volunteering in the following ways:

Speaker's Bureau/Peer Educator/Trainer

Volunteers will conduct presentations/trainings in a variety of settings on and off campus to residence halls, classrooms, fraternities, orientations, programs, and special events. Presentations can consist of all male groups or mixed groups depending on the message and desired outcomes.

Community Service

Volunteers will participate in community service projects. Ongoing projects may include: assisting community agencies with fund raising, office work, or providing technical assistance and computer support, establishing a mentoring program with boys in the community. Volunteers will conduct yearly special projects during commemorative months.

Outreach

Volunteers will use various forms of media to inform the community about the reality of violence, and provide information and tools people can use to prevent violence. Examples include: writing letters to the editor, opinion pieces, helping write and produce a newsletter, creating advertisements, posters, and brochures. These volunteers will also staff information tables and conduct outreach on campus.

Programs/Special Events/Educational Programs

Volunteers will plan, collaborate, and sponsor/cosponsor events throughout the year which will focus on the goals and mission of the program. Events can include guest speakers, theatrical presentations, and special events
