Nurturing OUR Creativity:
A Workshop for Writing Center Professionals
Writing centers are all about
helping people become writers. But we writing center
professionals—tutors, directors, and other administrative staff—know how
difficult it is for us to nurture our own creativity while we are working
so hard to nurture the creativity of others.
This workshop is designed to offer
and share strategies, tools, games, and ideas for helping writing-center
professionals get their own writing done. The workshop will address
topics like the following:
- Celebrating and sharing our own
creative writing
- Developing and writing
scholarly projects in the center
- Logistics: carving out space
and time
- Building a community and a
space for writing, not just talking about writing
- The center as performance space
- Creating a publishing culture
- Building partnerships with
other creative entities on campus and off
- Nurturing our own
writer-identities as we nurture those of others
The workshop is designed to be
inspirational and helpful to anyone working in a writing center who also
hungers to celebrate and nurture his or her own inner author—or for people
who already are active writers but who want to learn better how to
integrate their writing with their writing-center work. Join us and bring
your own good ideas and rich creativity.
